Gili Islands

Three car-free islands off Lombok

The Gili Islands are three tiny coral islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, where there are no cars or motorbikes, only bicycles and horse-drawn carts. Gili Trawangan is the largest and liveliest, with beach bars and dive schools; Gili Meno is the quietest; and Gili Air falls happily in between. The surrounding reefs are home to green and hawksbill turtles, which snorkellers can often see from the beach. Sunsets look across the water to Bali's Mount Agung.
