Coron

Shipwrecks and crystal lakes

Coron, in the Calamian Islands north of Palawan, is best known under the water. In 1944 a fleet of Japanese supply ships was sunk here, and the wrecks now lie at diveable depths, encrusted with coral. Around the island of Coron itself, sheer limestone cliffs enclose Kayangan Lake, often called the cleanest lake in Asia, and Barracuda Lake, where divers pass through layers of warm and cool water. Island-hopping tours stop at the Twin Lagoons and white-sand islets.
