Durban

Warm surf, curry and a subtropical seafront

Durban is South Africa's warm-water city, with the Golden Mile promenade running past beaches and surf breaks on the Indian Ocean. The city has one of the largest Indian communities outside India, which shows in the spice stalls of the Victoria Street Market and in bunny chow, curry served in a hollowed-out loaf. uShaka Marine World sits by the harbour, and the Moses Mabhida Stadium arch has a skywalk above the city. It is the gateway to the Drakensberg, the Zulu heartland and the game reserves of KwaZulu-Natal.
