Big Five country on a self-drive safari
Kruger stretches for about 350 kilometres along South Africa's border with Mozambique, a vast sweep of bushveld, riverine forest and mopane scrub. Its tarred and gravel roads make it one of the easiest places in Africa to self-drive a safari, staying in fenced rest camps such as Skukuza, Satara and Olifants. Elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards and rhinos all live here, along with wild dogs and hundreds of bird species. The private reserves on its western edge, including Sabi Sand, add open-vehicle game drives and walking safaris.
