Lagoons, forests and cliffs along the southern coast
The Garden Route runs roughly 200 kilometres along South Africa's southern coast, where indigenous forest meets lagoons and long beaches. Knysna sits on a lagoon guarded by sandstone cliffs called the Heads, and Plettenberg Bay has broad sandy beaches and whales offshore in season. Further east, the Tsitsikamma section of Garden Route National Park has a swaying suspension bridge over the Storms River mouth and the start of the Otter Trail. Inland, Oudtshoorn is known for ostrich farms and the Cango Caves.
