A mountain valley town on a winding road
Pai sits in a green valley in Mae Hong Son province, reached by a famously twisting road through the mountains from Chiang Mai. Once a quiet Shan market town, it is now a relaxed stop for travellers, with a walking street of food stalls in the evening. Days are spent riding scooters to Pai Canyon at sunset, soaking in the Tha Pai hot springs, walking to waterfalls and bamboo bridges across rice fields, or simply watching the mist lift off the hills.
