Hvar

Lavender fields, yachts and a Venetian harbour

Hvar is one of the sunniest islands in the Adriatic and among the most fashionable. Hvar Town wraps around a harbour full of yachts beneath a Spanish fortress, with a Renaissance square and a lively bar scene. Water taxis run to the Pakleni Islands for secluded coves. Inland, lavender fields and vineyards surround quieter old towns such as Stari Grad, whose ancient field system is a UNESCO site, and Jelsa.
