Dolomites

Jagged peaks made for hiking and skiing

The Dolomites are pale limestone towers rising above green meadows in Italy's far north, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2009. Summer brings some of Europe's finest hiking and via ferrata routes, with rifugi serving dumplings and strudel along the way; winter turns the valleys into a vast linked ski area. The culture is part Italian, part Austrian, and in some valleys Ladin.
