The end of the pilgrim road
For over a thousand years pilgrims have walked across Europe to Santiago de Compostela, where tradition holds that the remains of the apostle St James lie in the cathedral. Arriving in the Praza do Obradoiro, often footsore and emotional, is the moment of every Camino. The cathedral's Romanesque Portico of Glory and the swinging botafumeiro incense burner are its highlights. The granite old town is a UNESCO site full of arcades, and Galician food means octopus, Padrón peppers and tarta de Santiago.
