Tenerife

Spain's highest peak above Atlantic beaches

Tenerife is an Atlantic island of dramatic contrasts. At its centre, Teide National Park is a lunar landscape of lava fields around Mount Teide, at 3,715 metres the highest point in Spain, reached partly by cable car. The north is green and misty, with the colonial town of La Laguna and the terraced Anaga mountains; the south is dry and sunny with resort beaches. Boat trips go out to see whales and dolphins, and the cliffs of Los Gigantes plunge straight into the sea.
