One of the world's great medieval medinas
Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world and feels barely changed in centuries. Donkeys carry goods through thousands of narrow lanes, artisans work in tiny workshops, and the tanneries' dye pits look like a painter's palette from the terraces above. It's easy to get lost, so a local guide for the first morning is well worth it.
