The soul of Mexican food and craft
Oaxaca's colonial centre is compact, colourful and one of the best places in Mexico to eat. It's famous for its moles, tlayudas and markets piled with chapulines, and the surrounding valleys are dotted with mezcal distilleries and craft villages. Climb the Zapotec ruins of Monte Albán above the city, and if you can, visit around the start of November for Día de los Muertos.
