Surf, lighthouse and a laid-back crowd
Byron Bay sits at the most easterly point of mainland Australia, on the north coast of New South Wales. A walking track leads from the town up to Cape Byron Lighthouse, where dolphins are often seen and whales pass during the migration season. The town's beaches, from Main Beach to The Pass and Wategos, are loved by surfers. Byron has long attracted artists, surfers and alternative lifestyles, and today it mixes yoga and wellness with cafés, markets and the hinterland villages of Bangalow and Mullumbimby.
