Limestone stacks along a clifftop road
The Great Ocean Road winds for about 240 kilometres along Victoria's southern coast, built by returned servicemen after the First World War as a memorial to their fallen comrades. It passes the surf town of Torquay and Bells Beach, seaside Lorne and Apollo Bay, and the rainforests of the Great Otway National Park, where koalas sit in the trees. The highlight is the Port Campbell coast, where the Southern Ocean has carved the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge from limestone cliffs.
