Perth

A sunny, remote city on the Indian Ocean

Perth is one of the most isolated big cities in the world, and one of the sunniest. Kings Park, larger than New York's Central Park, looks down over the city and the Swan River. Cottesloe and Scarborough beaches face the Indian Ocean sunsets, and the port of Fremantle has a well-preserved 19th-century centre, a convict-built prison and a weekend market. A ferry ride away, Rottnest Island is home to the quokka, and the Swan Valley wineries lie just upriver.
