Cotswolds

Honey-stone villages in rolling hills

The Cotswolds are England at its most picture-perfect: rolling limestone hills scattered with villages built from the local golden stone during the medieval wool trade. Bibury's Arlington Row, Bourton-on-the-Water with its low bridges, Castle Combe and the market town of Chipping Campden are among the most visited. The Cotswold Way footpath runs about 100 miles along the western escarpment. Stately homes like Blenheim Palace sit on the edges. A car helps, but walking between villages is the most rewarding way to see them.
