Royal history, free museums and endless neighbourhoods
London works on two levels. There are the icons: the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the view from the South Bank. And there are the neighbourhoods, each with its own character, from the market stalls of Borough and Camden to the terraces of Notting Hill and the curry houses of Brick Lane. Many of the great museums, including the British Museum, the National Gallery, Tate Modern and the Natural History Museum, are free. Evenings mean West End theatre or a proper pub.
