Glacier National Park

Alpine lakes and the Going-to-the-Sun Road

Glacier National Park covers a million acres of the northern Rockies on the Canadian border. The Going-to-the-Sun Road crosses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass, clinging to cliffs above valleys scoured by ice, and is usually fully open only from around July. Trails lead to Grinnell Glacier, Hidden Lake and the Highline, and Lake McDonald's water is so clear you can see the coloured stones on its bed. Mountain goats, bighorn sheep and grizzly bears live here, so carry bear spray.
