Washington, D.C.

Monuments, memorials and free world-class museums

Washington is built around the National Mall, a long green avenue running from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial with the Washington Monument in between. Lining it are the Smithsonian museums, from Air and Space to Natural History and the National Museum of African American History and Culture, all free to enter. The White House, the Library of Congress and the moving war memorials are all within walking distance. Beyond the monuments, Georgetown has cobbled streets and waterfront paths, and spring brings the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin.
