Sedona

Red-rock spires and desert trails

Sedona sits in a basin of red sandstone buttes and spires that seem to glow at sunset. Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and Devil's Bridge are the most famous formations, all reachable on well-marked trails, and jeep tours bump along the backcountry roads. The town has a long reputation for spiritual retreats and so-called energy vortexes, alongside galleries and spas. Oak Creek Canyon runs north towards Flagstaff with Slide Rock's natural water slides, and the Grand Canyon's South Rim is within a couple of hours.
