Zion National Park

Red cliffs and river hikes in southern Utah

Zion Canyon was cut by the Virgin River through towering walls of red and cream Navajo sandstone. For much of the year a shuttle bus runs up the scenic drive, stopping at trailheads. The Narrows hike follows the river itself, wading between walls that close in to a few metres apart, while Angels Landing climbs a narrow ridge with chains for support and needs a permit. Gentler walks lead to the Emerald Pools and Riverside Walk. Springdale, right at the park entrance, is a convenient base.
